Lakers Earn 4 Seed in Regional Tournament

Iowa Lakes finished the regular season with an overall record of 21-9 and a conference record of 9-7 to earn the four seed in the regional tournament. The winner of the nine team tournament will earn a trip to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. By finishing in the top half of the conference, the Lakers will host their first round game against five seeded Iowa Central.

"Very proud of our team and all their hard work this season. Hosting a first round tournament game has been a goal of this team all season," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

Iowa Lakes was very competitive in conference play this season. Key contributors for the Lakers have been Breanna Wendland averaging 17.9 points per game, Shareece Smith averaging 14 points per game, and Samantha Hagedorn averaging 12.9 points per game. Wendland is 3rd and Smith is 9th in the ICCAC for scoring. Wendland is shooting 50.9% from the field on the season which ranks 3rd in conference. Smith is averaging 8.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists a game.

The Lakers will face off with Iowa Central for the third time this season. In their first meeting on January 19th at Iowa Central the Lakers won 64-49. February 2nd the two teams squared off at Iowa Lakes with the Lakers defeating the Tritons 72-61.

"Very excited for another match-up with Iowa Central. This will be another good challenge for our team. We are thrilled to be playing in March and thankful for the opportunity to host a first round game. Should be a great game," commented Martin.

The Lakers will host 5th seeded Iowa Central on Wednesday, March 6th at 5:30pm.
