Iowa Lakes Women’s Basketball Season Preview

Iowa Lakes Women’s Basketball Season Preview

The 2019-2020 Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball team is very optimistic about this year.  They have high expectations for this season as they returned eight sophomores and brought in four newcomers.  They expect to pick up right where they left off last year, where they finished with a respectable 21-10 record and placed 4th in conference with a 9-7 record.  They bring back their leading scorers, Shareece Smith of Fort Dodge, IA and Breanna Wendland of Richfield, MN, along with a few other key players that contributed a big part in their success.

Sophomores Smith and Wendland look to lead the Lakers through another competitive season this year.  Smith averaged 4 assists, 8.2 rebounds, and 14.2 points per game, shooting 42.5% from the field.  Wendland averaged 17.7 points per game, shooting 48.9% from the field, and brought in a respectable 5.3 rebounds per game.  Keep an eye on Safiyer Coleman, who averaged 8.2 points per game, and Bethany Rehse, who pulled down 6.9 rebounds per game, as they are two other stand out returners looking to help push the Lakers to another exceptional season.

Head Coach Ashley Martin has high hopes for this year's team.  Talking with Coach Martin about the upcoming season, she had this to say, "I'm very excited about the upcoming season with this group. We have a solid group of returners that brings back a lot of experience and understand what it takes to be successful in our league."

The Lakers are preparing themselves for their season opener at home against Dordt College JV.  They will tip off November 4th at 5:30pm.
