Lakers Host NIACC in ICCAC DII Region XI Tournament

The Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball team wrapped up regular season play last Wednesday with a 67-59 loss vs NIACC. The loss moved the Lakers to 19-11 overall and 13-7 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference play earning them the 4 seed in the ICCAC DII Region XI Tournament.

The Lakers will host 5th seeded NIACC on Wednesday, March 2nd at 5:30 pm in the first round of the ICCAC DII Region XI tournament. This will be the third time the Lakers have faced the Trojans this season. The two split on the season with the Lakers winning the first match up in Estherville, IA 79-78 on January 12th. The Trojans won the 2nd matchup in Mason City, IA on February 23rd.

The Lakers are led in scoring by Jaeda Whitner from Mason City, IA who is averaging 16.5 points per game, 4.0 rebounds a game, and 5.1 assists per game. Whitner has been one of the conference's top scorers the entire season. She is also leading the conference in assists per game. Other Lakers who are scoring in double figures include Rachel Puok at 10.7 points per game, Brielle Bartelt at 10.4 points per game, and Rachel Breck at 10.1 points per game. Breck leads the team in rebounds per game with 7 and is 2nd in the conference in field goal percentage with 56.2%.

The winner of the Region XI conference tournament will represent the league at the National Tournament.  The first round will start on Wednesday March 2nd. Top-seeded Kirkwood will host #9 DMACC, #4 Iowa Lakes will host #5 NIACC, #3 Iowa Central will host #6 Northeast, and #2 Iowa Western will host #7 Southeastern. The winners will advance to the second round on Saturday, March 5th at the highest seed's location, with the Championship game to follow on Sunday March 6th.
