Iowa Lakes Women’s Basketball Hosts Quarterfinal Game

The Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball team finished 3rd in conference and will host a quarterfinal game this Wednesday, March 8th at 5:30pm vs 6th seeded Northeast.  The Lakers are currently receiving votes in NJCAA rankings and are 18-11 overall and 10-6 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.

The Lakers will host 6th seeded Northeast on Wednesday, March 8th at 5:30 pm in the first round of the ICCAC DII Region XI tournament. This will be the third time the Lakers have faced the Hawks this season. The two split on the season with the Hawks winning the first match up 84-78 in overtime in Estherville, IA on December 14th. The Lakers won the 2nd matchup in Norfolk, NE on February 15th 75-70.

"Finishing in the top four in our conference is a great accomplishment for our team as we earn the opportunity to host a first round game. This group has worked hard and continually improved every day. This has helped us to play at a high level second semester. We are very excited to play on our home court in front of our fans," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

The Lakers are led in scoring by Brielle Bartelt from Waterville, MN who is averaging 15.2 points per game, 5.0 rebounds a game, and 3.7 assists per game. Bartelt has been one of the conference's top scorers the entire season. Bartelt is 2nd in conference for overall points scored in a season at 427. She is 5th in conference in points per game and 3rd in conference in assists per game. The Lakers have had a very balanced scoring attack with Emma Kanz averaging 9.8 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game and Ihari Oromo averaging 8.9 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game.

The winner of the Region XI conference tournament will represent the league at the National Tournament.  The first round will start on Wednesday March 8th. Top-seeded Kirkwood will host #8 Ellsworth, #4 NIACC will host #5 DMACC, #3 Iowa Lakes will host #6 Northeast, and #2 Iowa Western will host #7 Iowa Central. The winners will advance to the second round on Saturday, March 11th at the highest seed's location, with the Championship game to follow on Sunday March 12th
