Iowa Lakes Takes 3rd at Crossroads of America Invite
The Lakers traveled to Wentzville, Missouri just outside of St. Louis to wrap up their fall season at the Crossroads of America Women's Invite. After a great start with a seaon low 334 in the first round and only 9 shots off 4th ranked Ranked Barton Community College women's team, the Lakers slid a bit in day two by posting a 369 which still gave them a third place finish over 13th ranked John A. Logan CC. Barton CC would go on to win the tournament with a two day score of 629.
"The ladies came out and posted some of the best scores they have had all year, which is exactly how we wanted to end the season to show themselves what they are capable of." said Coach Weber in regards to his team's effort. "Annika posted a new tournament low with a 78 which could have been even better but she stumbled a little bit coming in. Alexia also had a great first round going and came in with an 80. All the girls did a great job in staying competitive and grinding for every shot and we have a lot to take away from this tournament to get better at before the spring."
Annika DuMoulin led the charge for the Lakers with a two day total of 166 (+24) which was good enough for a T-6th individual finish, followed closely by Abby Stender at 169 (+27) which was good enough for a 10th place finish. Alexia Kemper immediately followed with an 11th place finish at 170 (+28). Rounding out the other Laker scores scores were Erin Baum at 199 (+57) and Molly Diekmann at 202 (+60).
"This was a great fall for our women's team. We got a couple of wins under our belt and showed that we can compete with some very talented programs. We have great leadership in our sophomores and our freshman and they are all hungry to show what they can do come spring time at the Region Tournament. This is going to be a great off-season and we will come out swinging in April to a trip to the National Tournament."
