Lakers Open Season in Wichita, Kansas

The Iowa Lakes women's golf team opened up their spring campaign with a two day tournament in Wichita, Kansas at the Tallgrass Golf and Country Club. Multiple teams from six different states competed in the event hosted by Tabor College.

"It was a great couple of days for the ladies to get a jump on their season", said Coach Weber when asked about the weekend. "The girls did not score to their potential, however they did hit the ball fairly well for the first event of the year and they got to shake off a little bit of rust."

The Lakers were led by freshman Abby Stender with a two day total of 181 with splits of 90-91. Other scores for the Lakers were Erin Baum with a 196 and Annika DuMoulin and Molly Diekmann with a 197. Alexia Kemper posted a round one score of 93, however had to withdraw due to a mid-round injury that occurred in the first round.

"It was a bit of freak accident and hopefully she will be able to play next week in Nebraska. It is not very often that a player takes a tee shot on the fly to the back and finishes their round, so that speaks volumes to her toughness. Overall it was a good trip and the kids had great attitudes and are really looking forward to this spring."

The Lakers posted a round one total of 378 and round two total of 387. Next up for the women's golf team is the College of St. Mary's/Midland University Spring Invite in Fremont and Omaha, Nebraska on April 2nd and 3rd.
