#2 Lakers Victorious Against Iowa Western

In their second ICCAC Dual of the season, the Lakers were victorious over the Reivers from Iowa Western. In their 35-9 victory, the Lakers were propelled by bonus-point victories from Kevin Saravia at 125 lbs, Anthony Fisher at 149 lbs, David Hollingsworth III at 157 lbs, Evyn Insalaco at 165 lbs, Bunmi Smith at 174 lbs and Andre Bissainthe at heavyweight.

 

At 125lbs returning National Qualifier and 8th ranked Kevin Saravia for himself down 2-1 going into the second period. His opponents lead won't last long as Kevin was able to reverse his opponent at the beginning of the second period and then was able to rack up points in a hurry utilizing a variety of moves to put his opponent to his back. Kevin was then able to end the match early with a technical fall.     

 

Tracy Davis was able to control the match from start to finish capitalizing on takedowns and back points. The sophomore 141 lbs wrestler had a 7-1 the closing moments of the match but was unable to score two more points necessary to give him a major decision.

 

At 149 lbs, 4th ranked Anthony Fisher found himself in a math that appeared like it was going to come down to the wire. However, Anthony was not fazed by the back and forth nature of the match and used counteroffensive and pin his opponent in the first period.

 

The nation's number one 157 lb wrestler David Hollingsworth III came out the gate firing on all cylinders scoring early and often. He used a variety of takedowns and turns to capitalize on his opponent's poor position throughout the match-winning my technical fall.

 

At 165lbs 8th ranked Evyn Insalaco make quick work of his opponent scoring earl;y and often much like his teammates. The red-shirt sophomore showed his experience using a variety of attacks and turns to record another technical fall for the Lakers.      

 

At 174 lbs 3rd ranked Bunmi Smith continued with the theme of the night scoring early and often. He capitalized on his ability to turn his opponent to his back several times eventually pinning his opponent.

 

At heavyweight freshman, Andre Bissainthe closed the night for the Lakers with another victory. Andre was and to grind out his opponent and after several attempts to put him to his back, he was eventually able to end the match with a pin.  

 

Head coach Cody Alesch was pleased with the results but was even more excited about how his team wrestled when he said "I thought that everybody battled hard, stayed focus, and was aggressive. This was their best performance of the season and the scoreboard reflected that."  The Lakers are back in action on Saturday, November 17th in Minneapolis, MN as they compete at the Augie Open hosted by Augsburg College.
