Laker Wrestlers Tested at Grandview Open

The Lakers traveled to Des Moines to take on some of the nations best wrestlers at the Grandview Open. In a field filled with completion from NCAA Division 1,2, & 3 as well as NAIA and NJCAA there were several Laker wrestlers who proved to able to hold their own against such stiff competition.  The Lakers were led by nationally ranked Robert Hall III at 141 lbs placed 5th, freshman Matthew Jordan at 125 lbs and Deville Dentis at 149 lbs both took 4th place.

"It's promising to see improvements in the areas we have been focusing on in practice. This is our toughest open of the year and it's encouraging to see guys have success while also have areas of improvement exposed. We seek out the best coemption, so we know where we need to improve. I was really impressed with Deville today. He beat the wrestler who is ranked third in the country and the only person he lost to was a tough wrestler from the University of Iowa. Even in those matches he wrestled a smart match where he put himself in position to win both of those matches." commented Coach Alesch.

The Lakers return to action this Saturday when they travel to Minneapolis to wrestle at the Auggie Open hosted by Augsburg College. The Lakers next home game is Wednesday, January 14th when they host NIACC at 6:00pm at Spirit Lake High School.
