The Men's Wrestling program competed at the BVO Open over the weekend. Wrestlers from various schools across divisions competed and showcased all the work they've put in throughout the season. The Lakers were led by William Penn, Etheend, and Phillip Malone who had had impressive performances in their respective weight classes.
In the championship round at 149 lbs William Penn to Joe Penchi but bounced back to win three consecutive consolation matches, including one by sudden victory, before ultimately falling in the consolation finals. Etheend Deyampert showcased solid effort, finishing in 8th place. After receiving a bye in the first round, he won his second match by major decision. However, he faced defeat in the quarterfinals and lost both consolation matches, including the 7th-place match. At 285 lbs Phillip Malone received a bye but he faced a tough match, losing by fall to the Top Ranked Heavyweight from UW-La Crosse but regrouped to win two matches by decision before bowing out in the consolation finals.
Overall, the team had a strong showing, with multiple wrestlers wrestling deep in the tournament. The dedication and effort put in during practice truly paid off, and the camaraderie among the team members was evident throughout the tournament.
