Iowa Lakes falls short to Iowa Central

The Iowa Lakes Women's soccer team faced the Iowa Central Tritons and came out with a tough loss.

The Lakers now 1-2-1 , struggled to get shots on goal against the Tritons. Though they had their chances, they could not capaitalize them. The Tritons struck first in the 30th min. of the first half, and they would again score 2 min. later making the score 2-0.

Shots in the first half came from sophomore's Yecenia Sanchez and Maddy Duncan, each contributing 1 shot. Freshmen keeper Adelle Brown recorded 8 saves.

Going into the second half, the Lakers looked to bounce back but again could not finish their chances. The Tritons would add 2 more goals onto the board with 1 in the 60th min, and the last in the 80th min. Though the Lakers were down, they continued to push forward and attempt their chances. Late in the game with 40 seconds left, sophomore Sienna Scully hammered her way through the Tritons defense and played a beautiful through ball to sophomore Tessa Calabria who would find the ball perfectly into the net, pass the keeper.

Shots in the second half came from Tessa (3), freshman Dah Dah (1), Maddy (4), and Sienna (1). Adelle recorded 8 saves for the half.

"We started the game off really flat, not very much energy. They scored 2 goals in the last five min. leading into halftime and it sucked the momentum from us. The scoreline showed 4-1 but if we put away our chances we could've won the game." Viedenkamp said.

The Lakers take on Northeast Community College this saturday (09/09) in Spencer, IA at 4:00 PM.
