Lakers battle for a tie in double overtime

The Lakers took on Scott Community College today in Bettendorf, IA.

 

In the first half of the game, the Lakers dominated and came out with a goal. Tessa Calabria would take on 2 defenders and shoot to score but the keeper would block it. Maddy Duncan secured the goal in the 22nd min. by walking the ball into the back of the net off of Tessa's shot. The score would remain 1-0 for the rest of the half.

The Lakers recorded 5 shots in the first half, Tessa (2), Ana Lima (2), and Maddy (1). Keeper Adelle Brown recorded 5 saves in the first half.

The Eagles put themselves on the board with a goal just 4 min. into the 2nd half. With a shot from wide, the ball floated above Adelle's hands and found it way into the net. The game would remain tied until the whistle blew.

Shots in the second half came from Celeste Diaz (2), Joanna Medina (1), and Tessa (3). Adelle would record 4 saves in the half.

The game would go into overtime with golden goal (first to score, wins). The first 10 min of overtime was scoreless with both teams having chances. Going into the 2nd 10 min overtime, the Lakers dominated their play but couldn't manage to put one into the net, resulting in a 1-1 tie in conference play.

In both overtime play, shots came from Celeste, Tessa, Maddy, and Kylie. Adelle recorded 3 saves.

 

"We looked great in the first half. The second half was a different story. It felt like we were chasing a game that we were on control of. We need to be better at creating chances for ourselves," said head coach Viedenkamp.

 

Next, the Lakers take on Northeast Nebraska in Norfolk, NE on October 4th at 4:00 PM.
