The Lakers defeated Iowa Central 3-2 in conference play today.

A huge team effort by the Lakers put them on the board early in the 17th minute by a beautiful shot into the net by sophomore Sienna Scully. Tessa Calabria played a through ball between the Tritons defenders and Sienna 1 touched it straight pass the keepers hands.

The Lakers held the Tritons for the rest of the half to keep them on top 1-0. The Lakers only shot on goal was their goal but managed to make the most of their only shot. Keeper Adelle Brown recorded 10 saves in the half.

Going into the second half the Lakers were determined to stay on top. 5 minutes into the second half, Sienna found Madeleine Duncan for a through ball and Maddy used her speed to goal and placed the ball straight in the right corner.

The Tritons kept fighting as they notched a goal off a counter attack in the 57th minute to put them on the board. The Lakers answered back 4 minutes later with another goal. Off a corner taken by Celeste Diaz, Tessa found the ball with her head to drive it into the net for the Lakers third goal of the game. Again, the Tritons would put another on the board in the 74th minute to update the score 3-2.

There was high intensity by both teams in the last 16 minutes of the game but with the Lakers strong work ethic they kept themselves ahead on the board. The Lakers recorded 7 shots with 2 on goal. Adelle recorded 7 saves of the half.

"Huge win today for our ladies in this conference matchup. With only 2 subs and coming away with a win against a great team is hard to do but these ladies really wanted it today and it showed. Proud of them. Going into our next conference game, I hope we can bring this same intensity," said head coach Viedenkamp.

The Lakers are on the road again as they face Hawkeye for another conference matchup at 2:00 PM in Waterloo, IA.
