Tritons down Lakers in first round of playoffs

Today, Iowa Lakes faced Iowa Central in regional playoffs at Fort Dodge, IA.

As the 6th seed, the Lakers played the 3rd seed, Iowa Central and came out with a 3-0 loss.

Going into the game the Lakers knew what they were up against, as facing Central twice already. Both times in previous match-up's, each team earned a win so it was really anyone's game today.

In the first half, the Tritons notched a goal early 10 min. into the game but the Lakers continued to fight hard leaving the score board 1-0 till the end of the half. Lakers only managed to get 1 shot off in the first half and that was by sophomore Sienna Scully. Freshman keeper, Adelle Brown provided a strong presence, recording 7 saves in the half.

Going into the second half, the Lakers were determined to compete but again the Tritons would score early to secure the lead. 15 min. into the second half, the Tritons slammed a goal into the net and in the last min. they would yet again find the back of the net. Ending the game, 3-0.

The Lakers created a lot more chances in the second half and recorded 4 shots. Sienna, Tessa Calabria and Celeste Diaz each contributed. Adelle continued to make a difference, recording 11 saves.

"I thought the ladies put in extreme effort all throughout the season. It seemed like we faced adversity every single week in this very tough conference. Great group of young women, very proud of all of them. Huge thanks to the sophomores, best of luck to them in their future," said coach Viedenkamp.

This season, Iowa Lakes graduates 8 sophomores. Celeste, Tessa, Ana Lima, Yecenia Sanchez, Madeleine Duncan, Kylie Wellard, Sienna and Jordyn Howell.
