(Spencer, Iowa) On Sunday November 3rd the Lakers headed to Waterloo, Iowa to take on the 2nd seeded Redtails form Hawkeye Community College. Coming off an exciting 1-0 upset of the #1 seed in the Region 11 tournament and the #8th ranked team in the nation in Iowa Central, the Lakers kept that momentum going into the Hawkeye matchup. In a game that went into 2 overtime periods and into penalty kicks, the Lakers found success in the end, winning the Region 11 title 5-4 in penalty kicks. After winning the Region 11 championship, the Lakers travel to Overland Park, Kansas on Saturday November 9th, to face the Region 6/9 champions, Johnson County Community College. JCCC is ranked #2nd in the nation and beat the Lakers when they faced off back in August. However, the Lakers have sense added more confidence and skills to their bag of tricks and are playing their best soccer. The Lakers fished the regular season 14-6-1 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
The Lakers have found the back of the net 93 times this season. Leading the Lakers in goals scored this season is freshman Amelia Kimble, who has 24 goals on the season, putting her 2nd in the conference for goals scored. Freshman Ronniellia Bubb has been a force since she arrived in early September. She has 22 goals this season is 3rd in the conference for goals scored. Sophomore Rania Nurr-Mecca has added 11 goals this season. Freshman Amile Prie has 7 goals, freshman Ana Zamorano has 6 goals, and freshmen Balaghni Ines, Stina Mathews, and Chanell Makusu each have 5 goals apiece. Rounding out the Lakers scoring is sophomore Cayley Winters, who has 4 goals. The Lakers have a total of 73 assists on the season. Leading them is Winters, who has 11 assists on the year. Bubb and Ines have 9 assists apiece. Freshman Mahee Montenegro, Nurr-Mecca, and Zamorano all have 8 assists apiece. Kimble adds 5 assists, Mathews has 4, Makusu and Prie both have 3 assists.
The goalkeeper's, sophomore Katerine Flores and freshman Willow Stewart have been a crucial part of the Lakers success, combined they have had 10 shutouts on the season. Flores has played in 10 games, totaling 810 minutes, and has allowed 11 goals (1.22 GAA) with 29 saves (.725%). Flores has an overall record of 6-3 with 3 shutouts. Stewart has played in 9 games, totaling 810 minutes, and has allowed 4 goals (0.44 GAA), with 26 saves (.867%). Stewart has an overall record of 8-1, with 7 shutouts.
