Laker Women Swim & Dive split with Barton and Iowa Central

The Laker women competed in a double dual meet against Barton Community College and Iowa Central Community college Friday night. The women were able to beat Barton Community College (90-26) but fell to Iowa Central (105 -67).  The meet started out with the 200 medley relay with the team of Monique Dias, Brenda Neves, Shayna Asuncion, and Gabriela Reis who looked like they may have just out touched Iowa Central for first but since the scoreboard wasn't working it came down to a refs call and Iowa Central came out on top in the official results. Asuncion and Reis teamed up in the 1000 yard freestyle to turn things around for the Lakers taking 1st and 3rd respectively. Dias came in first in the 200 freestyle by four seconds over the next competitor. Newcomer Emily McMahon was able to take 5th in the 50 free and earned her first individual points of the meet. Neve returned to action in the 200 IM and was in the most exciting individual race of the night with a come from behind win. Reis returned to action taking second in the 100 backstroke. Monique turned around and was able to take her second first place finish of the night in the 500 freestyle. Neves and McMahon teamed up in the 100 breast stroke for first and third place finishes, respectively.

"The women looked good, a lot of wins or near wins. Very proud of how the team is working. Of course we have some improvements to make but it was nice getting a win right away at the first meet," said Coach Miranda Anderson.

The Laker women will be in action Oct 28th with a meet at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and will have their first home meet the following weekend, Nov. 4th, against Morningside College.
