Estherville, IA – Iowa Lakes Community College [0-10] hosted [5-5] Northeast Community College and lost [0-3] [16-25, 11-25, 10-25] Wednesday night at the Laker Gymnasium.

The match opened the 2019 ICCAC season for both squads.

Leading the way for the hometown Lakers were hitters Lindsey Jensen with 5 kills and Ariel Bozonie 4. Iowa Lakes came away with a lot of touches at the net and blockers were led by Quiana Coria-Lopez with three, Lindsey Jensen, and Sydney Swanson all with two. The back row defenders were led by libero Faith Marroquin with 20 digs and Mary Kelly with 10 digs respectively. Jada Barker came away with 16 set assists. Kelly and Bozonie had the only two Laker serving aces with one a piece.

The Lakers served at a 94% clip but Northeast did most of the offensive damage limiting the Lakers to only 33 serves and converted to offense very well.

Coach Turnbull had this to say, "I am proud of the progress we are making. We continue to get better every time we step out on the floor but it is time to start stepping up the learning curve. We are into conference play now and we need to improve our communication and stay aggressive the entire match."

The Lakers will travel to Joliet, IL for a tournament this Friday and Saturday. They will return home Wednesday September 11th to host a pivotal conference match against Southwestern CC.
