The Iowa Lakes Lakers hosted the first day of the Captain Jack Classic at the Laker Gymnasium on Friday and came away with two wins and one loss.

 

The Lakers [8-25] opened at 1:00 vs Missouri Baptist University and lost 0-3 [21-25, 18-25, 20-25]. The Lakers rebounded with back to back wins in the evening session. They defeated the St. Ambrose University JV-Blue 3-2 [27-25, 19-25, 25-17, 17-25, 15-13]. The Lakers capped off the night with a 3-1 [25-13, 12-25, 25-21, 25-16] victory over Red River College out of Winnipeg, Canada.

 

Coach Turnbull commented, "We had a pretty good day in the gym today. It started out on the slow side. Our performance against Missouri Baptist University was respectable but lack luster. We regrouped in the evening and played with more of a purpose and got some good results out of playing with more energy. There was a lot of support from the crowd tonight and our players responded very well to that and stepped up."

 

The Captain Jack Classic will continue on Saturday with the Lakers playing the St. Ambrose University JV-White at 1:30 and the Dakota State University JV at 3:15. The Lakers will recognize their outgoing Sophomores prior to the 3:15 match.
