LAKER VOLLEYBALL DROPS ICCAC OPENER AT #11 HAWKEYE
The Iowa Lakes volleyball team traveled to Waterloo, IA on Wednesday to face the daunting task of taking on #11 Ranked Hawkeye CC in the ICCAC opener. The Lakers played great volleyball for the most part but were unable to close out down the stretch in each set. Hawkeye weathered the feisty Lakers and played consistent enough to take down the Lakers 3-0 [25-22, 25-19 & 25-19.
Coach Turnbull commented; "I liked our approach coming in. We had great focus in pre-game and answered Hawkeye swing for swing in the first set, up until the closing points. Errors cost us down the stretch. In the second set it was much of the same. Big plays on both sides, tied at 17-17 and then Hawkeye executed better and put us away 25-19. In the third set we started slowly and battled back before losing 25-19. I just hope our ladies came away with some confidence that we can compete with the upper crest of the ICCAC but we have to execute late to win those sets and matches. We are getting closer by the day."
The Lakers will dive into the deep end right away in September, traveling to McCook, NE for a tournament to take on some very stiff competition. The Lakers will take on NJCAA Division I opponents, Seward County CC, Colby CC, Cisco CC and Division II foe North Platte CC.
