Iowa Lakes Women's Wrestling Makes History With First Competition

Iowa Lakes Women's Wrestling made history as they saw their first piece of action in Steven's Point Wisconsin as they competed in the Pointer Women's Open.

This marks the first time that a female has put on a singlet and competed for the Lakers in the school's history.

The nine ladies that took the mat for the lakers were:

Alex Koep - 109 lbs

Kylie Hessenius - 116 lbs

Alex Carty - 116 lbs

Savanna Galindo - 116 lbs

Isabel Jues - 143 lbs

Leilana Kollasch - 155 lbs

Morgan Griffin - 170 lbs

Emma Gomez - 191 lbs

Anika Vasquez - 191+ lbs

Coach Corey Muniz had this to say about the effort from his ladies on this historic day, "Hey, we fought hard. That's about all you can ask for. To say any one got the results they wanted isn't correct but there was an excitement to get back onto the mat and get ready for our next opportunity. These ladies know that regarless of it all, they did something special today and now are trailblazers for the amazing things to come for them and this program. I can not express in words just how proud I am of them and how excited I am for their future in this season and this sport."

The Lakers make their home debut against top ranked Indian Hills on Wed, November 8th, at 6:00pm.
