Aceves Shines in Laker Women's Wrestling debut

The 10th ranked Women's Wrestling Program hit the ground running in their second season, winning multiple bouts at the Luther Hill Open at Indianola.

Freshman Nina Aceves lead the charge with a 3-2 performance in the 145 pound weight class. "Nina is a stud, she works hard and wants to learn. I am proud of her effort, but im excited to see that she isn't satisfied with this performance. Her goals are much higher than this." Head Coach Corey Muniz had to say about the Freshman from New Trier High school's performance.

Other freshman getting wins were Lexi Timmerman and Riley Weiler at the 110 and 138 pound classes respectivley.

Returning National Quarterfinialist Isabel Jues also earned a win at the 138 weight class.

With the multiple highlights of the weekend second year Coach Muniz had this to say about the athletes performance, "Hey, we competed hard. This is a tough ladies tournament with over 400 entries from all levels of competition. It was a great measuring stick for where we are in comparison to day 1. The biggest focus was putting our foot on the line and going to war, and thats just what we did. This team is leaps and bounds ahead of last years squad and I think that is built on the foundation that the returners had created last year. The future is bright for this squad, now we just got to get back and the room and go to work."
