The young season continues to prove to be bright for Iowa Lakes as they had two wrestlers make it onto the podium at highly contested Luther Open.

Leading the charge for the Lakers were Holly Garrett with a 2nd place finish at the 131 pound weight class and Keyahna Phillips who finished 5th at 180. The team also finished 9th amongst the 19 teams.

"Hey Holly competed well," said Coach Muniz, "We did not have her last week due to an injury she was battling but she really came out ready to let it fly. Proud of her effort." Garrett's day begain with a :48 fall over Jamestown. She moved through the tournament with two more falls in 1:56 and 1:01 in her quarterfinal and semifinal matches before falling to Simpson in the finals.

Phillips battled back from a tough weekend last weekend where she lost both her matches to go 4-1 on the weekend. "We know what we have in Keyahna, she's a beast. It was really great to see her bounce back from a performace that she had last weekend to come out and leave it all out on the mat." said Muniz. When it comes to Phillips performace, dominant could be a great description. She stared the day with a fall over a four-time national qualifier in 1:22. after losing on a controversal call in her second match, she left no doubt. She processed to pin her next three opponents in 1:08, 2:46, and 2:16 to finish 5th.

The team also saw victories from Lexi Timmerman, Kylie Hessenius, Isabel Jues, and Riley Weiler. as well as multiple victories from both Nina Aceves and Hannah Baatz.

"We battled. The team is getting better and competing harder. That's all we wanted to do in the early part of this season and it is exciting to see them reach new heights because of it." Corey Muniz added about the team overall.

The Lakers begin their dual season this Wednesday opening the season against #7 ranked Iowa Western.
