Laker Bats Come Alive in Two Game Sweep of Southeastern Illinois College

The Laker bats found their groove today as the offense scored a combined 21 runs in a two game sweep over Southeastern Illinois College in Carbondale, Illinois.

Game 1 began as a pitchers duel early on as freshman pitcher, Evan Sankey (Appleton, Wisconsin) toed the rubber in Game 1. With Southeastern Illinois College leading 4-0 through five innings, the Laker offense found some life by scoring 4 runs in the sixth inning which included a Spenser Larson (Eden Praire, Minnesota) 2-run home run to get things started and tied the game on a Luis Cintron (Yabacoa, Puerto Rico) RBI single. Sophomore pitcher, Beau Britton (Colorado Springs. Colorado) would come in to shut down the Southeastern Illinois lineup by throwing 3 perfect innings and striking out 5 batters. The offense would carry their hot bats into extra innings when they scored 6 runs in the eighth inning which again was highlighted by another Larson 3 run blast to left field. That would give Iowa Lakes a cushion and they pushed the lead to 10-4 which would be the final score of game 1.

Game 2 started with a bang with the Laker lineup getting on the score board early, scoring 6 runs in the first two innings of the ball game. Bj Johnson (Tallahassee, Florida) was at the center of the offensive out burst with two triples in his first two at bats along with a solo home run by Ashtin Moxey (Jacksonville, Florida). The Lakers would add on 5 more runs during the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to increase the lead to 11-1 and would eventually be the final score of the contest. Sophomore pitcher, Martin Eckard (Victoria, British Columbia) took the mound and would throw an absolute gem by going 5 innings, striking out 6 and giving up just the one run to Southeastern Illinois.

The Lakers look for the four game sweep on Monday when they take on Southeastern Illlinois College in Edwardsville, Illlinois. Game 1 starts at 12 pm with the second game immediate proceeding.
