Lakers Split Doubleheader with DMACC

Lakers Split Doubleheader with DMACC

The Lakers would once again travel to Boone, Iowa to take on the Bears of Des Moines Area Community College to finish the four game series. Iowa Lakes would take game 1, 7-3, after a dominate pitching performance by sophomore pitcher Zach Meyer (Omaha, Nebraska). DMACC would take game 2 of the doubleheader by a final score of 10-0.

Meyer would take the hill in game 1 and would continue his recent stretch of dominance over the past couple of outings. Meyer shut down the Bear's lineup through four innings while striking out 5 hitters and allowing one lone hit in the process. Meanwhile, the Lakers offense would find some life in the third inning when Tyrese Mitchell (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) would reach base on a 1-out walk. Spencer Keane (Palm Springs, California) would follow up the walk by reaching first base on an error by the Bear's shortstop to put runners on first and second with only 1-out in the inning. Mallard Holland (Tampa, Florida) would come up with an RBI single to left field to bring home Mitchell and give the Lakers the 1-0 advantage heading into the fourth. As Meyer would continue his brilliance on the mound, the offense would continue to add some insurance runs thanks in large part to a 1-out, RBI single by Holland and a clutch 2-out, 2-run double by Jayden Adrians (Green Bay, Wisconsin) which would increase the lead 4-0 after four and a half innings of play. Bear's, however would answer in their half of the fifth inning with three runs of their own and cut the lead to 4-3 after five. The Laker's would again get some breathing room by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning which started off with a lead off walk from Dillon Van Oosbree (Emmetsburg, Iowa) and followed up by a Spenser Larson double down the left field line to put runners on second and third with no body out. Mitchell would drive home Van Oosbree with an RBI single to right-center field to bring the lead to 5-3 with runners on the corners. With two outs in the innings and the lead now 6-3 thanks to an RBI single by Keane, Tavan Shahidi (Ames, Iowa) would come up with a big 2-out, RBI single to center to give the Lakers a 7-3 lead which is all that they would need. Meyer would stifle the Bear's lineup in the sixth and Beau Britton (Colorado Springs, Colorado) would close the door in the seventh to give the Lakers the win in game 1.

Game 2 would be a much different story with DMACC jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead after the first inning and would not look back from their. The Lakers offense would be held quiet for a majority of the game with a few scattered hits and threats but were unable to amount to runs. The Bear's lineup would end up scoring four runs in the fifth along with two in the sixth to increase their lead to 10-0 which would be the final score after six innings of play.
