Saturday's dooubleheader between Iowa Lakes and #4 Kirkwood Community College was a tale of two completely different games. The Lakers would fall in game 1 by a final of 17-0. With all the momentum from game 1 in favor of Kirkwood, the Lakers would come out and play, arguably, their best played game of the year in game 2 but would drop a tough one thanks to a walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Kirkwood the 9-7 win.

Zach Meyer would get the ball in game 1 and would struggle to find outs early on in the first inning with the Eagle offense having 14 of their first 16 hitters reach base and scoring 13 runs in the first inning to give momentum to the Eagles throughout the game. The Eagles would add on 4 more runs in the second inning to bring their lead to 17-0 after two innings of play. The Lakers offense would be quiet for most of the game while only being able to collect two hits in the game, a double in the second by Jayden Adrians (Green Bay, Wisconsin) and a double in the fourth by Ashtin Moxey (Jacksonville, Florida). One of the bright spots in game 1 however would be freshman pitcher Chris Isensee (Shakopee, Minnesota) who would come into the game in the bottom of the second inning and go on to pitch the final 2.1 innings and strike out 3 hitters in the process.

Game 2 for Iowa Lakes was a completely different story and would be some of the best baseball they have played so far this season. The Lakers offense would jump on the board early when Spencer Keane (Palm Springs, California) and Mallard Holland (Tampa, Florida) would both walk to lead off the game. Adrians would get hit by a pitch to load the bases with 1 out in the inning. Spenser Larson (Eden Praire, Minnesota) would come up with a big 2-out single to center field to drive home Keane and Holland give the Lakers the 2-0 advantage. With freshman pitcher Mitchell Hoover (Brandon Valley, South Dakota) stepping up on the mound for game 2, he would give Iowa Lakes a great chance to get the win and would slow down the Kirkwood bats for a majority of the game. Hoover would give up two in the bottom of the first to tie the game but would keep the Eagles offense off balance for the next handleful of innings. With the Eagles taking a 3-2 lead after the fifth inning, Moxey would reach second base on an error by the Kirkwood third baseman to start off the top of the sixth. Larson would follow that up with a hit by pitch to make it runners on first and second with no body out. Chad Hinkle (Rosemount, Minnesota) would come up with big RBI single to right field to tie the game up at 3-3. Kirkwood would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth with a lead off triple and a sac fly to put them back on top 4-3, heading to the seventh. With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Moxey would reach first base on a fielders choice. Larson would hit a soft line drive back up the middle to put runners at first and second once again for Hinkle and he would come through with a RBI double off the wall in right field and tie the game up 4-4. Carl Renz (Pewaukee, Wisconsin) would get the ball in the bottom of the seventh as well as the eighth and would throw two scoreless innings and striking out two during his appearance. The Laker bats would come up big in the top of the ninth inning against Kirkwood's best arms and would score 3 runs to give them a 7-4 lead. Adrians would start it with a lead off double which was then followed with a single by Moxey to put runners at first and third with no body out. Larson would would provide a big double to drive home Adrians to give the Lakers a 5-4 lead and with a chance for more with runners at second and third. Moxey would score on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 6-4. Hinkle would draw a tough walk to put runners at first and third before Dillon Van Oosbree (Emmetsburg, Iowa) would come up with a clutch RBI single to drive home Larson and give all the momentum to the Lakers heading into the bottom of the ninth. With Beau Britton (Colorado Springs, Colorado) on to close out the game, the Eagles offense would find some life and score 4 runs, including a walk off homerun, to break the hearts of the Lakers and give Kirkwood a 9-7 win.

Iowa Lakes will once again travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to take on #4 Kirkwood Community College on Tuesday (4/10), looking to continue that magic from game 2.
