Lakers Drop Two to Southeastern in Series Finale

Iowa Lakes would take on Southeastern Community College in a doubleheader to finish the season series against the Blackhawks. The Lakers ended the series by falling in games three and four by the final scores of 23-4 and 12-0.

 Game one of the doubleheader would Southeastern get off to a fast start take a 10-0 after an inning and a half. The Lakers however would jump on the scoreboard in their half of the second inning thanks to a solo homerun by Ashtin Moxey (Jacksonville, Florida). With the score now 10-1, the tough day on the mound would continue for the Lakers as the Blackhawks would add six more runs and push the lead to 16-1. The Iowa Lakes offense would continue to battle as they would g o one to put three runs up on the board in the bottom of the third inning. With one out, both Spencer Keane (Palm Springs, California) and BJ Johnson (Tallahassee, Florida) would single to put runners on first and second when Chipper Holland (Tampa, Florida) would bring them both home on a homerun to left field. Although the Lakers offense would continue to apply pressure on the Blackhawks pitching staff and defense, the deficit would be to much to overcome as the Blackhawks would push across a few mores to give them a 23-4 victory.

The Lakers would hand the ball to sophomore pitcher Zach Meyer (Nebraska, Omaha) in game two and he would show signs of dominant stuff in the first inning where he would record all three outs via the strikeout. Although Meyer would start off well, he would run into some trouble in second inning when the Blackhawks would get on the scorebaord first with a four run inning. The Blackhawks would continue increase their lead in the third, fourth, and fifth innings as well as the they would two in the third and six in the fourth and two more in the fifth in push their lead to 12-0. The Lakers offense would be held quiet in game two of the doubleheader with Keane recording the only hit in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Lakers, who are now 14-24 (5-15), will play their a doubleheader at home on Wednesday against Buena Vista University JV with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 pm.
