Lakers Fall Twice to NIACC on Day Two of the Series

The Lakers concluded the four game series against NIACC on Sunday afternoon with an opportunity to get even with the Trojans after the heartbreaking loss in game two of the series on Saturday. NIACC would however go on to take both games of the doubleheader on Sunday by the final scores of the 7-1 and 11-3.

Game one of Sunday's doubleheader would see freshman pitcher Carl Renz (Pewaukee, Wisconsin) show innings of start dominance against the Trojan offense as the Renz and the start pitcher for NIACC would throw in the mid-90's and prove it to be a pitchers duel early on in the game. The Trojans would strike first in the third with a one-out with a two-run homerun to give the advantage to NIACC at 2-0. The Lakers would quickly answer back in the top of the fourth with a run of their own when Tavan Shahidi (Ames, Iowa) would reach first on a fielders choice and advance to second on a walk by Ashtin Moxey (Jacksonville, Florida). Shahidi would come around to score from second on a Spenser Larson (Eden Praire, Minnesota) RBI single to cut the lead in half and make it 2-1. That lone run would be the only run the Lakers would get in the game as the Trojans would seize momentum of the game by four runs in the bottom of the fourth and one more run in the fifth to increase the lead to 7-1 and claim vicotry in the game one.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Lakers would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of second inning when Dillon Van Oosbree (Emmetsburg, Iowa) would lead the inning off with a walk and would around to score on an RBI double by Larson. Larson would steal third base to a runner on third with nobody out. Luis Cintron (Yabuccoa, Puerto Rico) would reach first first base on a dropped flyball in left field which would allow Larson to score from the third base to give the Lakers a quick 2-0 lead. The Iowa Lakes offense would continue to make their presence known when they would add another run to the score board as Moxey would drive a RBI single to center field to drive home Mallard Holland (Tampa, Florida) would led off the inning with a walk. With the Lakers leading 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning, the Trojans would get their chance to score in the next couple of innings and would take advantage of it as they scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth inning as well to give them the lead, the advantage, and win 11-3 in game two.

The next contest for the Lakers will be Tuesday of this next week as they head to Minnesota to take on Century College in a non-conference doubleheader with first pitch of game one scheduled for 2 pm.
