Lakers Fall to Iowa Central Regular Season Finale

Iowa Lakes would conclude their regular season on the road Saturday with their final doubleheader against Iowa Central where they would fall in both games with the final score of game one being 12-2 and the the second game ending by the final score of 7-4.

Game one of the doubleheader would see the Tritons get off to quick start with an early run in the first inning as well as two run bottom of the second inning to give them a 3-0 lead heading into the third inning. As the third inning would be scoreless, the fourth inning would be the difference maker in the game as the Tritons offense would dominate the inning and score eight runs to take a commanding 11-0 lead. The Lakers offense would find a little spark however in the top of the fifth inning when Tyrese Mitchell (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) would lead the inning off with a single which was then followed up with a walk by Jarrod Corona (Tucson, Arizona). After advancing to third base on a wild pitch, Mitchell would come around to score on an RBI groundout by BJ Johnson (Tallahassee, Florida). Spencer Keane (Palm Springs, California) would deliver in the next at bat an RBI single to bring how Corona to give the Lakers a two run inning an bring the score to 11-2. The Tritons would answer back quickly in the bottom of the fifth inning with lead off double which would eventually be brought home home thanks to an RBI single to bring the score to 12-2 and the final outcome of game one.

Game two would be different story as the Lakers would get the upper hand in the first inning when Keane would draw a one out walk and would advance to second on a Mallard Holland (Tampa, Florida) single. Tavan Shahidi (Ames, Iowa) would drive home Keane with an RBI single to left field that would give the Lakers and early 1-0 lead. Iowa Central would come up with runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning when they would get two runs off of sophomore pitcher Dylan Klein (Sleepy Eye, Minnesota) who would struggle with his command early on but would settle in nicely in the middle innings of the game. Klein would continue to battle as he would only give up two more runs throughout his outing with one run coming in the bottom of the second and one run coming in the bottom of the fourth inning. With the score now 4-1, the Lakers would continue to battle and get runners on but were without a clutch hit to drive runners in. The Tritons would take advantage and add on some insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings by scoring one run in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to increase their lead to 7-1 heading into the top of the ninth. The Lakers would rally in their half of the ninth when Spenser Larson (Eden Praire, Minnesota) would pinch hit and hit a double in left center field to get the inning off to a good start. Larson would steal third base and be brought home on an error by the second baseman which would allow Corona to reach first base and advance to second on the over throw. Johnson would continue this string of hits with a double down the left field line to bring home Corona. Johnson would also score later in the inning on a double play. The Lakers rally would fall short in game two of the doubleheader with the Tritons taking game two as well by a final score of 7-4.
