Lakes Wins Opening Series

On the final day of the series, the weather forced the Lakers and Red Devils to one nine inning game Sunday afternoon. Hits were hard to come by for both teams until Iowa Lakes broke the scoring open in the sixth inning when Dean Bedell (Treynor, Iowa) led the inning off with a single through the left side. Alex Pavon (Bellevue, Nebraska) would follow and put a ball past the shortstop. Bedell and Pavon would both advance one pitch later when a ball gets to the backstop allowing them to advance. Beck Anshutz (Des Moines, Iowa) would come up with a big single to right scoring both Bedell and Pavon to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead. Marcus Pronay (Innisfil, Ontario) would would lay down a sac bunt down the first base line to advance Anshutz who would eventually get to third base on a passed ball. Austen Daliet (New Orleans, Lousiana) came up with big RBI scoring Anshutz from third to give Iowa Lakes the 3-0 lead and that is all they would need to beat the Red Devils.

The Iowa Lakes pitching staff was dominant in the final game allowing zero runs and just two hits in nine innings. Jacon Myer (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) got the start in game three striking out five and and allowing no hits. Jacob Gilbet (Wasilla, Alaska) would come in for Myer and get the job done striking out three and only allowing one hit. Mitchell Hoover (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) was electric striking out two, while allowing one hit. Lucas Garder (Estherville, Iowa) shut the door in the ninth striking out three and giving up zero hits and getting the save.
