Vikings Take Two From Lakers

Iowa Lakes Traveled to Hillsboro, Missouri to take on Jefferson College in a four game series. In game one the Vikings added on runs early scoring four runs and holding Iowa Lakes to no runs until the top of the 6th when the Lakers broke open scoring three runs. The Laker scoring started off with a Jimmy Mapakou (Vauréal, Île-de, France) leadoff walk and an Austen Daliet (New Orleans, Lousiana) single over the shortstop to advance Mapakou. Ryan Mclean (Shelburne, Ontario) would follow up with walk to load the bases for Mark Thornhill (Tallahassee, Florida) where he would single to right field to score Mapakou and to make it 4-1 vikings. Jalen Jones (Indianapolis, Indiana) would hit an RBI groundout to short to cut the lead to 4-2, and Andrew Eskens ( Lincoln, Nebraska) single up the middle to make the score 4-3 Jeff Co. The Vikings would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the 6th to give them a 6-3 lead and that's all they would need and would take game one 6-3

Jacob Gilbert (Wasilla, Alaska) got the start and went four innings allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 5. Austin Charbeneau (Idaho Falls, Idaho) came in and threw 1.2 innings striking out 3 and giving up a run. Cory Knight (Ankeny, Iowa) had a strikeout in .1 innings pitched.

In game two runs were hard to come by for the Lakers where there only runs came from two solo homeruns from Thornhill and Mclean. Both Thornhill and Mclean had two hits while Eskens added a double of his own. The Lakers trailed early as Jeff Co put up runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th while adding 2 more in the 7th to secure the 8-2 victory.

Jacob Buffington (Bogart, Georgia) got the start in game two striking out 6 and going 3 1/3 innings allowing 5 runs before giving way to Arturo Gil (San Luis, Arizona) who went 3 2/3 innings striking out 5 allowing 2 earned runs.
