Vikings Sweep Lakers

 The Iowa Lakes Lakers and Jefferson College Vikings set to finish their four game series Sunday Afternoon. In game one the Vikings struck first scoring 4 runs in the 3rd inning. A leadoff walk and HBP followed up by a 3 run homerun to make it 3-0. Jeff Co.would score two more in the inning by a walk and single putting the runner into scoring position and would be driven in by a single through the left side to give the Vikinsg a 5-0 lead. Jeff Co added one more run in the 4th inning by a solo shot over the right field wall. The Laker offense was held to 0 runs until Beau Sackett (Malcolm, Nebraska) roped a double down the left field line. Austen Daliet (New, Orleans, Louisiana) and Ryan Mclean (Shelburne, Ontario) would work back to back walk to load the bases where Mark Thornhill (Tallahassee, Florida) drove him in with a fielders choice to give Iowa Lakes a run making it 5-1 Vikings. The Lakers could not push any more runs across and would drop game one by a score of 5-1.

 

Jacob Myer (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) got the start in game 3 and suffered the loss, pitching 2 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits. Mitchell Hoover (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) went 3 2/3 only allowing 1 run.

 

 In the last game of the series between the Lakers and Vikings, the Vikings offense broke lose scoring 10 runs on 8 hits. The Laker offense was held to 0 runs until the 6th inning when Sackett worked a walk and was followed up by a Daliet single moving Sackett up for Mclean who would drive him in with a single over the shortstops head making the score 10-1 Vikings. The Iowa Lakes bullpen would hold Jeff Co to no runs through the final 4 innings and allowed the Laker offense to add on two more runs in the 9th inning. Beck Anshutz (Des Moines, Iowa) would launch his first collegiate homerun over the center field wall giving the Lakers another run across the board. Trevor Bormann (Algona, Iowa) would blast a ball into the right center gap for a double and put himself into scoring position. Marcus Pronay (Inninfil, Ontario) would draw a walk and Bormann would reach third on a passed ball putting runners on the corners for Jimmy Mapakou (Vauréal, Île-de, France) would hit into a fielder choice scoring Bormann from third cutting the lead to 10-3. That is all the Lakers would push across dropping game four 10-3.

 

Frankie Cresta (Johnston,Iowa) got the nod in game four going 2 2/3 innings allowing 7 runs while moving to 0-1. Sam Denker (Papillion, Nebraska) came in relief and allowed 3 runs in 1 1/3 innings. The Laker trio of Tomas Pinet (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), Lucas Gardner (Estherville, Iowa), and Will Dowell (Normal, Illinois) threw 4 scoreless on 6 strikeouts to finish the night cap.
