Reivers Sweep Day One of Series

The Iowa Lakes baseball team headed to Council Bluffs to take on the Iowa Western Reivers in a 4 game series. In game one, the Reiver pitching kept the Laker offense in check only allowing one run. Iowa Lakes struck first with a solo shot from Beck Anshutz (Des Moines, Iowa) for his second of the season would give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Iowa Western answered scoring 11 unanswered runs and would take game one 11-1. Iowa Lakes combined for 4 hits.

 

Jacob Buffington (Bogart, Georgia) got the nod in game one going 2 2/3 innings and giving up 9 runs. Cory Knight (Ankeny, Iowa) finished the game for the Lakers, allowing 2 runs in 2 innings.

 

In the second game of the doubleheader Iowa Western scored 3 runs in the second inning off a couple hits and a walk and would take control of the game until the 5th when Iowa Lakes pushed one across. Marcus Pronay (Innisfil, Ontario) would double into the right center gap and would advance to third base on a Beau Sackett (Malcolm, Nebraska) single. Ryan Mclean (Shelburne, Ontario) and Mark Thornhill ( Tallahassee, Florida) drew back to back walks to make the score 3-1. Iowa Western responded in the bottom of the 5th with a solo homerun to to give them a 4-1 lead. Jalen Jones (Indianapolis, Indiana) connected on his first homerun of the season to cut the lead to 5-2 but it wasnt enugh as Iowa Western took game two 5-2. 

 

Jacob Gibert (Wasilla, Alaska) got the start in game two for Iowa Lakes going 5 innings, allowing 5 earned runs. Austin Charboneau (Idaho Falls, Idaho) and Sam Denker (Papillion, Nebraska) combined to allow 1 run in 1 inning of work as the Lakers dropped game 2 6-2.
