Iowa Lakes Athletic Director Troy Larson is pleased to announce the hiring of new Head Baseball Coach Danny Acosta pending board approval.
Acosta brings over 30 years' coaching experience to the position and most recently has been an assistant coach at Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, North Carolina. He is not a stranger to Iowa Lakes as he served as assistant baseball coach at Iowa Lakes from 2006-2010. His coaching experience covers a wide range. He coached all levels of baseball: youth organizations, high school, college, and professional. He has worked as a scout, strength and conditioning coach, as well as hitting, and pitching coach for professional organizations such as Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, Minnesota Twins, San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs. Acosta earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sports Coaching and a Master's Degree in Sports Science with a focus in Sports Management. He is continuing his education in Sports Psychology with a focus in Performance Enhancement.
Athletic Director Troy Larson is looking forward to Coach Acosta returning to Iowa Lakes. "Excited to have Danny rejoining our department.
Danny was highly regarded in his previous time as an assistant coach at Iowa Lakes and has wonderful baseball experiences.
Danny is connected within the sport and is a very good recruiter which is critical in this position. He also has a high baseball IQ," commented Larson.
Acosta has been working as a consultant helping athletes develop the mental part of their game. He believes deeply in developing all aspects of his players-physical, mental, and emotional. Larson commented, "Danny cares deeply about student athletes which makes him the ideal fit at Iowa Lakes."
Acosta is also looking forward to returning to Iowa Lakes, "I am very excited to be back at Iowa Lakes Community College, ever since I left it has been like there was something missing so I'm happy to be here. It was great to receive the call from Troy Larson telling me the news that I got the job. I'm very thankful to the search committee and the administration for selecting me."
"I am looking forward to many years at Iowa Lakes Community College, building a solid baseball program, looking to start leaving our mark in our conference and representing Iowa Lakes to our highest possibilities," said Acosta.
Along with his coaching duties Acosta will also serve as an admissions enrollment coach.
