Marion, IL — The Iowa Lakes Baseball team had a doubleheader against Southeastern Illinois on Tuesday evening.
GAME ONE: (Southeastern 8, Lakers 6)
The Lakers opened up the game, taking the early 2-0 lead. At the top of the third, Southeastern responded with two runs.
Logan Ferguson (Idaho Falls, ID/Idaho Falls High School) throws an amazing game, only allowing three runs, through 5 innings.
With the third inning underway, Kody Putnam (#1) lined to right field for a double to allow for Southeastern to gain two runs. With the game close (3-2 Lakers) going into the fourth, the lakers came to a slight halt. Finally, being able to score two in the sixth inning.
Iowa Lakes lost the lead in the sixth inning with the game tied at 6 a piece.
Southeastern, looking for the win, went into extra innings, finishing with a two-run home run by Putnam in the bottom of the 9th.
GAME TWO: (Southeastern 8, Lakers 7)
Southeastern came out swinging, putting a 2 spot on Iowa Lakes early in the first.
Starting pitcher, Cory Knight (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial High School), started the game off slow, allowing 2 runs in the first inning. Yet, ended up settling in only allowing five runs through six.
Iowa Lakes started out slow but was able to attain a 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Starting off with a base on balls by sophomore Andrew Eskens (Lincoln, NE/Pius X High School) who scored by a fielder's choice by Noah Murphy-Sealy (Aurora, ON/Bill Crothers Secondary School).
At the bottom of the seventh inning with a 6-7 baseball game, Southeastern began with three straight walks in a row, leading to a walk off double by Logan Verble (#34) scoring. For a final score of 8-7
NEXT UP: Iowa Lakes plays another two-game series against Southeastern Wednesday Feb. 24th. Game one will begin at 11:00am and 1:00pm.
