Conquistadors Take Two From Iowa Lakes Lakers

Dodge City, KS — The Iowa Lakes Lakers lost two-games to the Dodge City Community College Conquistadors on Saturday evening.

GAME ONE: (Conquistadors 17, Lakers 13)

The game was tied at 12 with Conquistadors batting in the bottom of the 5th-inning. Jake Miller (#6) got an RBI double putting them ahead.

Starting pitcher Cory Knight (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial High School), for the Lakers, surrendered 7 runs on 6 hits, through 2.1 innings.

The Conquistadors opened the 1st-inning by Joe Daneff (#13) drove in three runs with a double to right field. It was not until the top of the 2nd-inning when freshman Ben Bach (Bloomington, MN/Bloomington Jefferson High School) hit a two-run home run to left center, scoring freshman Joan Benavidez (Bayamon, PR/Tomas C Ongay High School).

For the Lakers, Jack Hested (Fairmont, MN/Fairmont High School) and Kedrick Edwards (New Orleans, LA/St. Augustine High School) entered the game as relief, both throwing 1.2 innings.

The Lakers attained 11 hits on the day with Ben Bach, Joan Benavidez and Andrew Eskens all having multiple hits. The Conquistadors racked up 14 hits on the game through 7 innings.  

GAME TWO: (Conquistadors 14, Lakers 8)

The Lakers lost the lead late in a 14 to 8 game to the Conquistadors.

For the Lakers starting pitcher freshman TJ Galleberg (Forest Lake, MN/Forest Lake Area High School), went 4.2 innings, letting up 8 hits, 7 runs, and striking out 4.

The game was tied at 8-8 in the bottom of the 6th-inning when an error by left fielder Mohamed Baoui (Savigny le Temple, FR/Lycee Bellevue) for the Conquistadors to take the lead.

The Conquistadors took an early lead in the first, with a lead-off solo homerun by Noah Thompson (#18). With the Conquistadors scoring three in the first, it was not until the third where the Lakers took the lead 6-4, starting with a double by sophomore Jimmy Mapakou (Vaureal, Ile-de, FR/Baseball Toulouse Academy).

Freshman Caden White (Idaho Falls, ID/Idaho Falls High School) lead off the top of the 4th-inning with a solo home run putting the Lakers 7-4. In that same inning, freshman Santiago Gonzalez (Valencia, VE/Hipolito Cisneros) would score on a sac-fly hit by freshman Mohamed Baoui (Savigny le Temple, FR/Lycee Bellevue).

With the Lakers up 8-7 going into the bottom of the 6th-inning. The Conquistadors answered back by putting up 7 runs to solidify the game 14-8.

NEXT UP: Iowa Lakes plays another two-game series against Dodge City Community College on March 7th, in Dodge City. Game one will begin at 11:00am and 1:00pm.
