Dodge City, KS — The Dodge City Community College sweeps Iowa Lakes Lakers Sunday evening.
GAME ONE: (Conquistadors 18, Lakers 7)
The Conquistadors scored 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning which solidified their win over the Lakers.
Starting pitcher for the Lakers, Jacob Gilbert (Wasilla, AK/Wasilla High School) giving up 9 runs on 9 hits and totaled 6 strikeouts through 5 innings.
The Lakers got the ball moving in the top of the second inning, with a two-run home run by freshman Joan Benavidez (Bayamon, PR/Tomas C Ongay High School). With the Lakers on top, going into the bottom of the third inning, the Conquistadors hit 3 total home runs, putting them on-top 6-3.
Sophomore Beau Sackett (Malcolm, NE/ Malcolm High School) brought some life back into the Lakers, starting in the top of the fourth inning, with a two-run home run to left field. Putting the game at 6-5 Conquistadors.
The Conquistadors won with a 18-7 victory over the Lakers, racking 14 hits, with 6 home runs.
The Lakers racked up 11 hits, with 4 home runs through seven innings.
GAME TWO: (Conquistadors 10, Lakers 6)
The Conquistadors pulled away in the third inning, scoring 4 runs, by a three-run home run by Kory Schmidt (#34). Followed by a solo home run by Luke Smith (#23).
Starting pitcher freshman Dayton Robinson (EwaBeaon, HI/James Campbell), went through 4.1 innings, allowing 8 runs on 5 hits, and collected 9 strikeouts.
It was not until the second inning, when freshman Caden White (Idaho Falls, ID/Idaho Falls High School), to get the offense started by hitting a two-run home run to left center. Going into the bottom of the third inning, the Lakers were up 3-0.
The Lakers did not score again until the top of the sixth inning, scoring 3 to put the game at 10-6 Conquistadors.
NEXT UP: Iowa Lakes plays a two-game series against Des Moines Area Community College on March 17th, in Boone, IA. Game times are set at 12:00pm and 3:00pm.
