GAME ONE: (Doane 12, Lakers 11)

Thursday's game against Doane University JV was a heartbreaker for Iowa Lakes Community College, as they lost the lead late in a 12-11 defeat.  The game was tied at 11 with Doane batting in the bottom of the sixth when Black was hit by a pitch, driving in a run.

Delvis Claudio drove in five runners in the loss.  Claudio drove in runs on a grand slam in the first and a single in the third. The Lakers got on the board in the first inning when Claudio homered on a 0-1 count, scoring four runs.

Iowa Lakes tallied seven runs in the third inning.  Isaac Rogne, Juan Martinez, Ben Bach, Joseph Winter, and Claudio each had RBIs in the big inning. Doane University scored seven runs in the fifth inning.  Doane University batters contributing to the big inning included Olson, Cote, Black, and Amick, all driving in runs in the inning.

Kelvin Castro took the loss for Iowa Lakes Community College. The righty went one and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on three hits and striking out one.Travis J Galleberg started the game for the Lakers. Galleberg lasted three innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out eight. The Lakers smacked one home run on the day. Claudio put one out in the first inning.

Iowa Lakes totaled 13 hits in the game. Bach, Claudio, and Akxel Soto each racked up multiple hits for Iowa Lakes Community College.  Claudio and Bach each collected three hits to lead Iowa Lakes Community College.  The Lakers were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Gabriel Monosmith made the most plays with nine.  The Lakers stole six bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Martinez led the way with three. Amick went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Doane University in hits.

GAME TWO: (Lakers 17, Doane 16)

The Lakers built a ten-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Doane University charge for a 17-16 victory on Thursday.  Doane University scored ten runs in the failed comeback on a home run by Griess in the fifth, a double by Yanez in the fifth, a single by Black in the sixth, a double by Amick in the sixth, a home run by Olson in the sixth.

The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game. Iowa Lakes collected 14 hits and Doane University had 15. Iowa Lakes pulled away for good with six runs in the third inning.  In the third Riley Leng doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs, Isaac Rogne tripled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, and Rafael Perez grounded out, scoring one run.

The Lakers tallied eight runs in the fifth inning.  The offensive onslaught by Iowa Lakes was led by Jose Colon, Santiago Gonzalez, Leng, and Perez, all driving in runs in the frame.

Doane University scored five runs in the sixth inning. Doane University batters contributing to the big inning included Black, Amick, and Olson, who all drove in runs.

Jack Hested got the win for the Lakers. The righty went four and a third innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and striking out five. Leng and Keaton Sirek entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Leng recorded the last seven outs to earn the save for Iowa Lakes.

Iowa Lakes socked one home run in the game. Perez had a dinger in the fifth inning. The Lakers had 14 hits in the game. Leng, Korey Johnson, Colon, and Rogne all had multiple hits for Iowa Lakes.  Leng led the Lakerswith three hits in five at bats.

Doane University totaled 15 hits in the game.  Griess, Amick, Hostetler, Olson, and Yanez each had multiple hits for Doane Griess went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Doane University in hits. Doane University tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Black led the way with three.

The Lakers take on Iowa Western and Ellsworth on Saturday March 19th.
