Lakers take two form Blue Jays

 

GAME ONE: (Lakers 13, Blue Jays 1)

The Lakers easily dispatched the Blue Jays 13-1 on Monday. Iowa Lakes opened scoring in the first inning. Delvis Claudio doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

The Lakers notched six runs in the third inning. Claudio, Joan Benavidez, Peter Marquez, Jose Colon, and Ben Bach each had RBIs in the frame. Christian Gonzalez earned the victory on the mound for the Lakers. Gonzalez surrendered one run on three hits over three innings, striking out seven and walking zero. Dayton Robinson and Briar Rowley entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Iowa Lakes saw the ball well today, racking up nine hits in the game. Sean Gamble, Claudio, and Korey Johnson all collected multiple hits for the Lakers. Johnson, Claudio, and Gamble each collected two hits to lead Iowa Lakes.

GAME TWO: (Lakers 19, Blue Jays 11)

Delvis Claudio drove in seven on three hits to lead Iowa Lakes past the Blue Jays in a 19-11 win. Claudio drove in runs on a home run in the first, a home run in the third, and a home run in the fifth.

Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. Iowa Lakes collected 13 hits and the Blue Jays had 15. In the first inning, Iowa Lakes got their offense started when Jose Colon singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Iowa Lakes put up six runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught by the Lakers was led by Colon, Isaac Rogne, Joan Benavidez, Luis Ramos, and Santiago Gonzalez, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Hunter Neeley was credited with the victory for Iowa Lakes. The lefthander allowed five hits and four runs over one and one-third innings, striking out three. Sean Gamble, Kellen Cameron, and Kelvin Castro all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Claudio had a homer in the first, third, and fifth innings. Benavidez put one out in the seventh inning.

The Lakers collected 13 hits on the day.  Claudio, Colon, and Gabe Monosmith all managed multiple hits for Iowa Lakes Community College. Claudio led Iowa Lakes Community College with three hits in three at bats. Minnesota West Community College racked up 15 hits.

The Lakers face of Des Moines Area Community College, Wednesday March 23rd, in Boone, IA.
