Estherville, IA – Lakers take two at home opener
GAME ONE: (Lakers 13, Panthers 2)
Peter Marquez would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base on Saturday, driving in five on two hits to lead Iowa Lakes past Ellsworth13-2 on Saturday. Marquez drove in runs on a grand slam in the first and a single in the fourth.
An early lead helped propel the Lakers to victory. Iowa Lakes scored on a single by Delvis Claudio and a grand slam by Marquez in the first inning.
Bryan Mojica pitched Iowa Lakes to victory. The righty allowed three hits and two runs over four and a third innings, striking out seven. Kelvin Castro threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
The Lakers tallied one home run on the day. Marquez went for the long ball in the first inning. Iowa Lakes totaled 11 hits in the game. Ben Bach, Claudio, and Marquez all had multiple hits for Iowa Lakes Community College. Claudio and Bach all had three hits to lead Iowa Lakes Community College.
GAME TWO: (Lakers 18, Panthers 0)
Iowa Lakes defeated Ellsworth 18-0 on Saturday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.
Joey Winters led the Lakers to victory by driving in seven runs. Winters went 2-for-3 at the plate. Winters drove in runs on a single in the second, a grand slam in the fourth, a walk in the fifth, and a walk in the sixth.
Iowa Lakes got on the board in the first inning. The Lakers scored two runs when Delvis Claudio doubled. Iowa Lakes notched five runs in the third inning. The Lakers batters contributing to the big inning included Ben Bach, Caden White, Rafael Perez, and Joan Benavidez, all driving in runs in the inning.
Kellen Cameron was the winning pitcher for the Lakers. The righthander lasted six innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four. Jack Hested threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Iowa Lakes socked two home runs on the day. Bach went yard in the third inning. Winters had a long ball in the fourth inning. Iowa Lakes tallied 13 hits. Claudio, Winters, and White each managed multiple hits for Iowa Lakes. Claudio led the Lakers with three hits in four at bats.
