NIACC snags two from Lakers

GAME ONE: (NIACC 14, Lakers 13)

A walk-off left Iowa Lakes on the wrong end of a 14-13 defeat to NIACC. The game was tied at 13 with NIACC batting in the bottom of the seventh when Mezzenga hit a solo homer.

The Lakers fell behind by four runs in the third inning, but then tried to fight back.  Iowa Lakes tallied 13 runs in the failed comeback. Joan Benavidez, Luis Ramos, Ben Bach, Delvis Claudio, Caden White, and Peter Marquez all picked up RBIs in the rally.

Iowa Lakes scored two runs in the top of the sixth, NIACC answered with two of their own. The Lakers scored when Mike Rivera homered on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs. NIACC then answered when Kelly hit a solo homer and Fuecken doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Iowa Lakes notched 11 runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught by the Lakers was led by Benavidez, Ramos, Bach, Claudio, White, and Marquez, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Kellen Cameron took the loss for Iowa Lakes. The righty surrendered four runs on five hits over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking zero.

Hunter Neeley started the game for Iowa Lakes. The southpaw went four innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out three Mollett started the game for NIACC. The ace allowed three hits and eight runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four

The Lakers smacked two home runs on the day. Rivera had a dinger in the fourth and sixth innings.

Iowa Lakes tallied nine hits in the game. Rivera and Benavidez all managed multiple hits for the Lakers. Benavidez and Rivera each collected two hits to lead Iowa Lakes. NIACC totaled 14 hits in the game.  

GAME TWO: (NIACC 14, Lakers 13)

It came down to the last play, but Iowa Lakes was on the wrong end of a 14-13 defeat to NIACC. The game was tied at 13 with NIACC batting in the bottom of the ninth when Nicoletto drew a walk, scoring one run.

Joan Benavidez drove in four runners in the loss. Benavidez drove in runs on a grand slam in the sixth.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, NIACC tied things up at 13. Christian Gonzalez threw a wild pitch allowing two runs across the plate for NIACC.

Iowa Lakes scored five runs in the sixth inning. Micke Rivera and Benavidez each drove in runs during the inning.

Edwin Acevedo took the loss for the Lakers. The pitcher allowed two hits and one run. Sean Gamble started the game for Iowa Lakes. The righty went six and two-thirds innings, allowing ten runs on 11 hits and striking out seven Robertson started the game for NIACC. The hurler surrendered one run on two hits over two innings, striking out two and walking zero

The Lakers hit two home runs on the day. Caden White put one out in the second inning. Benavidez went for the long ball in the sixth inning.

Iowa Lakes collected 11 hits.  Benavidez, Santiago Gonzalez, Matt Torresan, and White each had multiple hits for the Lakers.  Benavidez led Iowa Lakes with three hits in four at bats. NIACC racked up 17 hits in the game.  

 

Lakers travel to face-off against Kirkwood Community College for a weekend 4-game series, on April 23rd and 24th.
