GAME ONE: (Lakers 22, Blue Jays 18)

Iowa Lakes defeated Minnesota West 22-18 on Monday thanks to a walk-off grand slam. The game was tied at 18 with Iowa Lakes Community College batting in the bottom of the ninth when Joey Winters homered on a 1-0 count, scoring four runs.

The Blue Jays scored 12 runs in the eighth inning, but Iowa Lakes still managed to pull out the victory. The Lakers fired up the offense in the first inning. Ben Bach drove in one when Bach doubled.

Iowa Lakes evened things up at 18 in the bottom of the eighth inning. Winters doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

After Minnesota West scored one run in the top of the seventh, Iowa Lakes answered with one of their own. The Blue Jays scored when #12 singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. The Lakers then answered when Isaac Rogne singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Iowa Lakes put up six runs in the fifth inning. The Lakers offense in the inning came from walks by Bach, Korey Johnson, Winters, and Rogne, a single by Tyler Hoffman, and  by Peter Marquez.

Cade Witzke earned the win for Iowa Lakes. The pitcher went one and one-third innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out four and walking one.

Keaton Sirek started the game for the Lakers. The southpaw allowed two hits and zero runs over two and a third innings, striking out three

Iowa Lakes smacked one home run on the day. Winters put one out in the ninth inning. The Lakers saw the ball well today, racking up 18 hits in the game. Iowa Lakes tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Bach led the way with two. Minnesota West Community College collected 14 hits on the day.

 

The Lakers take on the Trojans for a single 9-inning game at home on April 26th. Game time is at 1:00 PM CST.
