Iowa Lakes offense explodes for 37 runs in road series.

This past weekend Iowa Lakes baseball team travled to Hesston, Kansas to take on the Hesston College Larks in a 3 game road series. In the final weekend series before starting region play this upcoming week the Lakers did not dissapoint coming out and taking 2 of 3 from Hesston and doing so in dominant fashion.

The biggest takeawy from the weekend was the Lakers offense putting up 37 runs, while hitting 7 homeruns in the 3 game set. Big time performances from Beau Dalian and Miguel Pena lead the way as the pair combined for 10 hits, 4 homeruns, 12 runs scored and an astounding 12 RBIs as well. also providing 8 RBIs with a pair of bombs of his own was Elkin Ortiz. "It's great to see the offense come to life and have production 1-9 in the order" said head coach Chris Witzke. "We're right where we need to be playing clean baseball heading into conference play. Players we expected to be key contributors for us have stepped up and helped us in big ways and this was the first series our depth on the mound was tested this weekend so it was great to see some new faces step up and play a big part in the teams success."

The first day of the doubleheader saw 2 exciting games that were highlighted by some big tome performances on both sides of the baseball. On the mound the Lakers were lead by Mason Hicks and Garrett Bergmann. Hicks pitched 5 innings earning a no decision in game 1 while racking up 8 strikouts and scattering 7 hits allowing 1 earned run. Bergmann matched with a gem of his own, earning his 2nd win of the season and throwing 4 innings and allowing zero runs. Also a key contributor on the mound was JT Roy who pitched 5 innings allowing only 2 hits and no runs while striking out 8 Hesston batters as well. 

Lakers open up region play on Tuesday march 18th in Norfolk, NE taking on Northeast CC in a doubleheader.
