Lakers Draw 1-1 Against Hawkeye

Iowa Lakes Men's Soccer hosted Hawkeye CC on Wednesday, playing to a 1-1 draw. The Lakers dominated possession in the first half but found it difficult to break down Hawkeye as they sat back and defended deep in their own defensive half of the field. However, Iowa Lakes found their breakthrough in the 40th minute when Emilio Cazares served a ball from the right side of the box, finding Francis Motsi on the back post for the headed finish.

The Lakers came out in the second half ready to go at Hawkeye; however, an unfortunate red card saw an Iowa Lakes player sent off with 40 minutes left to play. The Lakers played bravely with a man down, defending as a solidified unit and controlling the tempo of the game, but the accumulation of fouls led to their demise as Hawkeye capitalized on a freekick from the right side of the box, which was headed in to make it 1-1. The Lakers fought to regain the lead with a couple of great chances in the final minutes but couldn't find another goal. The match finished in a draw.

The Lakers are now 6-1-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference play. Iowa Lakes' next match is a trip to Norfolk, NE, on Wednesday, September 27th, where they face off against #1 nationally ranked Northeast CC.
