Eliya Johnson to Play for Lakers

Iowa Lakes Community College Head Softball Coach, Katie Larson, announced the signing of Eliya Johnson to the 2020-2021 recruiting class. Eliya is the daughter of Byron and Sonja Johnson and attends Coon Rapids High School in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.

"Eliya is a great addition to our very strong 2020-2021 recruiting class. At the plate, she adds some much needed power. Eliya hits for a high average, with the ability to hit the ball out of the park on any swing. Defensively, she has some good hands on the corner and will provide more options in the circle. No matter where she is playing next year, she will be a player to keep your eyes on." Said Coach Larson.

With three varsity letters under her belt, Johnson has made a great impact on the Cardinals program thus far. In 2018, she was selected to both the All-Conference and All-Section Teams and was chosen as the Rookie of the Year. During the 2019 season, she received All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. In her career, Johnson batted .428 with a .492 on-base percentage. She recorded 44 hits, including five doubles and 12 homeruns. She also batted in 37 of her teammates. She holds the record for single-season homeruns with seven (2018) and is tied for career homeruns (12) at her high school. For her career in the circle, Johnson has posted a 10-8 record with a 4.42 ERA. She has struck out 72 batters and walked 45.

Johnson had this to say, "I chose Iowa Lakes because of the close knit environment/community and everyone knows everyone."

Johnson is also an excellent hockey player. She has lettered and was voted most improved in the past two seasons (2017-2018). Additionally, Johnson was voted to be one of the captains in her final season.

"We are very excited to welcome Eliya and the entire Johnson family to our Iowa Lakes Softball family." Commented Coach Larson. "We cannot wait to continue to watch Eliya grow on the field and as a person these next two years."
