The Iowa lakes softball team travels to Beatrice, Nebraska to start their season on March 6 with a double header.

After practicing for the past six months they are ready to play some live games against different teams. The Lakers have a short roster so will need to fight through both physically and mentally. Head Coach Katie Larson is looking forward to watching them continue to grow and compete this season.

One of Coach Laron's key contributors this year will be pitcher Meagan Reyes. Larson said of Reyes, "She is a tremendous pitcher that also has the mental side. To be an elite pitcher you have to have the right attitude and mental toughness. We feel very comfortable giving the ball to Meagan in any situation."

Pitcher and outfielder Lexus Gorospe will also play a big role for the Lakers this year. Larson is looking on her to build on her experience from last year, "She did a great job for us both in the circle and in the lead off position. I think she has become more dynamic at the plate, which will keep the defense on their toes. In the circle, she looks more confident and always has that competitive mentality."

Kailey Maksim and Taylor Beane are two other players to keep an eye on this year. Both look to be powerful at the plate and will bring good leadership to the infield. Kamryn Buntrock will be hitting cleanup for the Lakers with a quick, powerful swing. She is also versatile, playing both infield and outfield.

The Lakers will start the conference season Saturday, March 28 at Kirkwood Community College. Their home opener is Wednesday, April 1 against North Iowa Area Community College.
