Katie King enters her ninth season as the Head Women’s Softball Coach at Iowa Lakes Community College coming off a 35-19 season. The Lakers finished the season by losing in the Regional Championship game, where they lost to #17 DMACC. They had  three athletes selected to the ICCAC All-Region First team, two athletes chosen to the ICCAC All-Region Second team, and two athletes selected to the ICCAC Honorable Mention Team. Alyssa Thorson was selected as an NFCA and NJCAA All-American, was selected as the ICCAC Defensive Player of the Year, and received the NFCA Golden Glove Award. The Lakers excelled in the classroom, finishing with a 3.64 team GPA.

Overall, King has a 198-142 record. Her teams have been ranked in four different seasons and have reached the regional championship game in five of the eight seasons. King has coached two All-Americans and forty-four ICCAC All-Region players. She has had three teams ranked in the top 25 for the NJCAA in team GPA. Her teams have seen seventy-seven Academic All-Region players and thirty-one Academic All-Americans. Thus far, one athlete that King coached has been inducted into the Iowa Lakes Community College Athletic Hall of Fame. King has also been named Region XI Coach of the year one time in her career. 

A New Ulm, Minnesota native, King was a five-year starter for the greyhounds leading them to three state tournaments and two state championship titles and earned a selection to the State All-Tournament Team her sophomore year. Katie was a five-time member of the All-Journal Team, four-time member of the All-Conference Team, four-time member of the All-State Team, and All-Journal Player of the Year her junior year. King graduated from Cathedral High School in 2009 holding six softball records. 

After graduation, Coach King started her collegiate career at Iowa Lakes Community College. In her freshman season, the team finished with a record of 61-11 (most wins in Iowa Lakes history) and a third place finish in the National Tournament. Katie made the Academic All-Conference Team in 2010 and 2011. The 2010 team was recently inducted into the Iowa Lakes Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017. She graduated from Iowa Lakes with her Associate of Arts Degree. 

King then continued both her academic and athletic careers at University of Sioux Falls in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. While at USF, King captained the team in their first season as a NCAA Division 2 program. King was an NSIC Academic All-Conference member, NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award recipient, Prestigious Purple Feather Award recipient, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes recipient. 

Coach King earned her Master’s degree in Higher Education from Iowa State University and her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  

King resides in Estherville, Iowa with her husband Hunter, and step-daughter Lyla (4).
