Winter and Hofstad Lead Lakers to Win at Simpson
The Iowa Lakes women's golf team returned to the winner's circle with a strong team effort at the Indianola Country Club for the Simpson Fall Invite. The Lakers came away with a nine shot victory over the field by posting a team score of 353. Sophomore Kelly Winter led the charge with a runner-up finish individually with an 82 and freshman Gretchen Hofstad was close behind with a third place finish at 85.
"Between the tough playing conditions and the course layout, it was an absolute grind today and I could not be more proud of the way our ladies fought today. Kelly played extremely well today and it is great to see her find success with all of the hard work she has been putting in, and Gretchen continued her great play this fall with another top five finish. Hopefully these two can continue to be a solid one-two punch for the rest of the year and lead this team to more victories!" said Iowa Lakes golf coach Jarvis Weber when asked about the day.
Isabella Santistevan was able to also finish in the top-ten with a score of 90, while Abby Gaudian came in with a 95. Somer Hudson carded a 100 to round out the team scores.
"Isabella and Abby found a way to bring in a solid score today, and it made the difference for the team to get the win. We keep getting better every day and I am very eager to see where this team keeps heading with hard work they are putting in."
Playing as individuals, Madilyn Shandorf posted a 96, Savannah Wolff with a 106, Heidi Malm with a 110, and Alexis Halbach with a 126.
"This year we are blessed to have a large roster, so getting to bring four individuals brings a completely different feeling to these events. It is great to see everybody together for the first time this fall to get more experience and get better. The goal with any golfer, regardless of where they are at with their game, is to get them to the next step of their development and everybody on this roster is doing that and it is great to see." added Coach Weber.
The Lakers will look to ride their momentum into the DMACC Fall Invite on October 5th at the Ames Golf and Country Club before finishing up the season October 19th and 20th at the Grandview Fall Invite at Otter Creek Golf Club in Ankeny, IA.
