The Iowa Lakes women's golf team started their 2021 spring season off with a team victory at the Graceland Spring Invite at Lake Mozingo Golf Course in Maryville, MO. The Lady Lakers posted team scores of 384 and 369 over the two days to finish with a team tally of 753, good enough for a 28 shot victory over the field of four teams, with Waldorf University coming in second. This marks the second team win for the Lady Lakers in the 2020-21 season.

Iowa Lakes Community College golf coach Jarvis Weber had this to say about his teams performance this week: "I am extremely proud of this group for how they kept their heads down and just kept moving forward. Early spring golf in the midwest can be difficult at times trying to get back to top form, and being confident and patient enough to understand that process. This group has put in a great deal of work this off-season and I am extremely happy for them to see them get rewarded for it in our first event".

Leading the way for the Lakers was sophomore Kelly Winter who finished in second place overall with a two day total of 178 (92-86) and freshman Abby Gaudian with finished fifth overall with a 181 (94-87).

"Kelly and Abby came in with a great mindset and played very well for their first event of the year. It wasn't always pretty or by any stretch perfect, but they stayed patient and kept their composure. Kelly has always been at the center of this team's success, so it was nice to see Abby step up with a new personal best on day two and help shoulder the load. We have some great talent on this roster and players who want to work and get better, and Kelly and Abby are a prime example of that. They have worked extremely hard this off-season to be ready for this spring, as have the rest of the team so there is little doubt we will see everybody show some success this year. That's what I'm excited about."

Rounding out the other scores for the Lakers were Isabella Santistevan with a 198 (98-100), Gretchen Hofstad (104-96), and Somer Hudson with a 204 (100-104). Alexis Halbach carded a 266 (136-130).

"The course conditions did not set up for low scores this week. The course played very long, cold, and windy. We may not like the end scores right now, but the ladies played well all things considered. This group has a lot more to offer moving forward and I am excited to see them tee it up again after a week off in Lincoln."

The Lady Lakers will look to continue their campaign on April 6-7 in Lincoln, NE at the Concordia Bulldog Spring Invite at Highlands Golf Course.
