Lakers Successful at Grand View Open

The Lakers competed in the Grand View Open on Saturday, in a field of Division 1, Division 2 NAIA, and JUCO competition the Lakers fared well in the competitive tournament. Coach Cody Alesch had this to say about his team's performance this weekend "The guys fought hard all day. We learned a lot about the areas we need to clean up, and we need to keep building on the foundation that these guys have started." Sophomore Hasan Krigger went 5-1 on the day picking up one fall along the way to a 3rd place finish at 125. Freshman Jordin James went 4-0 on the day finishing with a 5-2 decision over Marcus Abreu of Life University in the finals to take first place at 133. Another Freshman Anthony Fisher also took first place with a 4-0 record on the day beating conference foe Scott Cook of Ellsworth Community College 12-1 in the finals at 141. At 149 Freshman David Hollingsworth III went 5-1 beating Josh Adams of Ellsworth Community College 12-2 in the third place bout. In his first college tournament Isaac Shelton went 4-2 on the day losing to Erik Salcido Iowa Western Community College, taking 6th place at 157. Anthony Maia was the champion at 157 going 4-0 on the day picking up two falls along the way beating Drew Sams of Graceland 4-2 ion the fianls. Isaiah Cox was also picked up two falls on his way to a 4-0 finish beating Darrin Miller of Concordia 7-1 in the finals of 184. Also placing at 184 was freshman Jonah Johnson going 4-2 taking beating Eddie Smith of Iowa Central Community College in the fifth place bout.
