Wrestlers Compete at Grand View Open

In the Lakers second open tournament of the season, they had a number of individual wrestlers place. Head coach Cody Alesch was pleased with his team's improvement from last weekend when he said "I'm happier with this week's performances than I was last week. The guys are opening up more and being more aggressive. The purpose of the tournaments on the weekend is to expose the team to adversity and see how they respond. At some point in time during the Regional and National Tournament something isn't going to go their way and them better they respond the better they will do. We had guys wrestling against the best competition and not back down, there were guys who lost early and fought their way back, and we had guys who built off performances they weren't happy with. All of these are indicators make me excited to see where we go from here."

Anthony Fisher took 6th place at 149 lbs. He lost his first-round match then went on to win 5 wins a row including 4 technical falls and a major decision. Steven Raines took 6th place at 184 lbs, he too lost in his first round match and then went on to win 4 in a row. Dawson Troxel took 6th place at 197 lbs in his first college tournament going 3-2, with two pins. Andre Bissainthe took 6th place at 285 lbs making the semifinals before losing two in a row including a loss to the number one wrestler in the country. The Lakers take the mat again against Iowa Western on Wednesday, November 14th at 7 pm in Council Bluffs, IA
