Hutchinson's 25 points lift DMACC women's basketball past ILCC, 108-81

 

Sophomore Reanna Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., led four players in double figures with 25 points as the DMACC women's basketball team handed Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) a 108-81 loss February 3 at Estherville.

 

Hutchinson got her points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point range. She was 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomores Jaden Ainley of Clear Lake had 17 points, freshman Eviyon Richardson of Waterloo scored 16 and sophomores Rebekah Fuller of Bondurant and Hallie Mohr of Mediapolis finished with 12 and 10 points respectively as DMACC surpassed 100 points for the second time this season. The Bears also reached the century mark with a 102-85 decision against the Briar Cliff University Junior Varsity on Nov. 17.

 

The win against ILCC was DMACC's fifth straight and gives the Bears an overall record of 16-7 and a 12-2 mark in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

The game was close early with neither team leading by more than two points. Fuller's jumper with just less than three minutes remaining in the first quarter broke a 13-13 tie and ignited a 12-2 run that gave the Bears a 25-15 lead with 27 seconds left in the period and DMACC led the rest of the way. The quarter ended with DMACC leading 27-17 and the Bears outscored the Lakers 26-14 in the second quarter for a 53-31 advantage at halftime. DMACC led by as many as 36 points in the third period before settling for an 86-52 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

 

DMACC, ranked 19th in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), shot 49 percent from the field, including 54 percent from three-point range. The Bears made 26 of 73 field goal attempts and were 7-of-13 from beyond the arc. They were 29-of-36 from the free throw line.

 

Both teams came away with 32 rebounds. Ainley and Mohr led DMACC with five rebounds apiece and Hutchinson had four. Hutchinson and sophomore Kennedy Jones of Oak Park, Ill., had two assists apiece and Jones, Richardson and Fuller had three steals apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) Feb. 7 at Norfolk, Neb. NECC is 10-12 overall and 7-7 in the ICCAC. The Hawks' losses include an 86-66 decision against DMACC Jan. 22 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
